Slow-simmered broths
Our phở and bún bò Huế broths simmer for hours with charred ginger, star anise and cinnamon for a deep, clear flavour.
chào mừng — welcome to our family table
Gia Đình is a small, family-run Vietnamese kitchen on Illawarra Road. We slow-simmer broths overnight, roll rice paper to order, and pile every plate with fresh herbs — the way our grandparents did in Hà Nội and Sài Gòn.
Gia đình means family in Vietnamese — and that's exactly how we cook. Our recipes come from grandmothers in the north and aunties in the south: written in notebooks, whispered over stovetops, and perfected at hundreds of Sunday lunches.
We grew up eating on low plastic stools on busy streets, where a bowl of phở was cooked by someone who had made it every morning for thirty years. We brought those flavours to Marrickville so our neighbours could taste them too.
Every plate that leaves our kitchen is cooked the way we'd cook for our own family — generous, fresh, and made with care.

★★★★★
“Great service and delicious, authentic food in Marrickville. I've visited several times, often dining alone, and I keep coming back for the special combination pork chop with broken rice — it never disappoints.”
★★★★☆
“Great Vietnamese food amongst the many in Little Vietnam. The Bun Bo Hue I had was delicious and fragrant. It was great that you get fresh chilli to moderate the spice level.”
★★★★★
“No kidding, they have the best and crispiest banh xeo. Other places make the mistake of getting the batter too thick so the bottom becomes soggy, but here it's wafer thin and cracker-like.”

“The dining experience at this Vietnamese restaurant was amazing. Every dish showcased the rich and vibrant flavors of Vietnamese food.”

“Went there for a quick late lunch around 2:45pm with family. Not sure if it's near break time, staff was mopping the floor when we went in…”
